ZiPmatch Founder, S.Clarke Smith, MD, FAFP
Steele Clarke Smith earned his M.D. degree from Indiana University and has had a special interest in the unique problems of obesity for his entire career. He served with the US Marines in Vietnam and between military operations, provided desperately needed care to nearby villagers.
Dr. Smith is a Life Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and active with the California Medical Association. As a resident, he conducted an obesity study, and while running his own medical clinic, conducted a weight loss program in conjunction with a well-known behavioral psychologist.
When urged to exercise, the common theme expressed by his patients has been: "But, I don't have anyone to work out with!" This led to the realization that if people just had an easy way to link up with others in their neighborhood who want to "get out there," their chance of success would be much greater. Thus, ZiPmatch was created as a way to make this happen.
Dr. Smith enjoys hiking, sailing, fishing and downhill skiing and works out regularly.
